Stienberg wrote a piece earlier this week about Flames trade chips and has Anderson at the top of his list. He might not be wrong. Gio, Hamilton, and Hamonic likely aren't going anywhere.
gio's The Captain, loved for his community work and still a top pairing guy on this team. If the organization were to trade him, it should have happened two years ago.
Hamilton is going to be their best D, if he isn't already.
The Flames gave up a ton for Hamonic, they clearly hold him in high regard. Trading him now would just smack of panic and poor asset management. If treliving wanted to get himself fired, trading Hamonic now for presumably less than what he gave up, would be a good way to do it.
Brodie should get traded, but the organization doesn't appear to have the depth on the left side to do it. It doesn't sound like Kylington or Valimaki are ready to take his minutes, this year or next.
They could trade Stone, but what ever return you are going to get likely won't move the needle that much, they acquired him last year for a 3rd. I can't imagine his value has changed. Keep in mind the extended him less than a year ago because they likely didn't want a Kulak-Anderson bottom pairing. The placed higher value on a veteran D who can play up in the line to spot for injuries.
So what's left? We know the Flames want to improve and start making some noise in the playoffs. They've stated this publicly & their moves over the past two years support this. If the Flames want to improve, they will need to leverage a position of strength to address a weakness, is defensive depth for offensive help. A 22 year old NHL ready RHS D is an attractive asset to a lot of teams who are rebuilding or looking for a quick rebound (Montreal).
