Agree with what you are saying, and I actually feel like the Flames have done that quite successfully this year from the folks they've brought up forward wise, and our back up goalie.
In regards to Wotherspoon though, he's been given tones of opportunities. I'd assume if they feel they need to get some D depth, it's because they don't think folks like Wotherspoon can provide what's needed if called upon. You can't simply call it up if you don't have it in your system.

Assuming no depth additions, the Flames are one injury away from having their #7 D play every game. If they truly don't believe anyone in Stockton is up to the task then maybe a waiver move or minor trade is in order.

Wotherspoon has actually had a pretty good year just looking at the stats. He's leading the D in goals, tied with Andersson in points, and leads the team in +/- (yeah, I know).
