Sliver, I’m curious what you think the principals at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School are doing today? Most likely the admin are doing their best to help kids and families comprehend and deal with yesterday’s events. In the near future, those admin will be reopening the school and will be working with students and staff to overcome the tragedy. I would say these folks are heroes.

In regards to the guy thanking principals for their service, I thanked the post mostly for fun because most principals and teachers are not heroic in a context relevant to adults. As far as kids go, you may be surprised when the safety a school and its personnel offers become heroic in the eyes of disadvantaged students. Also, I haven’t been thanked many times so I am taking that thanks for all it is worth.

Today, millions of kids are going to school trusting that they will be safe in their classrooms and that the adults in the building will do their best to ensure a safe environment. The next week will encompass far more than just teaching the curriculum. So, maybe for a week you can put aside your dislike of principals/teachers, your belief that they have a 9 month work year, and the ‘undeserved’ high rates of pay.

I enjoy your posts, Silver. I agree with some of your posts about education but I also recognize that your view is ignorant in many ways.
