All about cost of acquisition. Clearly Hoffman is the superior player to Bobby Ryan. But is giving up a Valimaki or an Adam Fox along with a 1st round pick + possibly something else worth it? I don’t think it is.

For me though, ridding our self of Brouwer’s contract and his cement feet for a right winger who can still skate, score and make plays sounded pretty enticing. I read Eric Duhatschek’s recent article on the Athletic and he softened me on the idea about bringing in Bobby Ryan.

At the end of the day, with how few assets we have. All and any creative ideas that can improve the team should be explored.
