Ottawa showed yesterday that they're willing to lose a trade right now to save money (real dollars). A Bobby Ryan (50% retained) and Troy Brouwer swap saves Ottawa $6 million in total dollars owed and for Eugene Melnyk, that's a big deal. Cap hit goes up, but I doubt that's a big deal to the Senators who will be pushing out big contracts this off season anyway.
Bobby Ryan looked really good in the playoffs last season (16 pts/19gms) and a new environment could rejuvenate his game. A big body who can skate, score and make plays as a right handed shot would be an improvement over Troy Brouwer. It's a very palatable cap hit at $3.625 as well. At worst, the buyout amount wouldn't be crippling either.
