My sister is moving back up here with her husband from Texas as well. You'll like it here if you can stand a cold winter. It's not really that cold here, but compared to anywhere in Texas it is.
As for picking up jobs, you can walk into any place retail and find a job. At the least it would be a good filler job until you get to know the city and area better to see if a fishing guide or hiking guide? can make money (I don't fish, so I have no idea, and I hike by looking at a map in the info station and going and seeing if I can find the trail). Do you know what part of the city you're moving into? A lot of times places don't bother to post onto jobsites now because the response is so low either way and they always have more jobs then takers. Finding a place near where you're going to live and either dropping by when you get up here, or calling ahead would be a good idea.
