Many people didn’t think Smith was going to be this good, so Treliving deserves all the credit for getting a true #1 for very little.

I’m sure in hindsight many teams wish they could’ve had Smith for the same deal. Treliving has aggressively tried to solve the Flames goaltending issues without giving up prized assets and the goaltending has improved each season the last 3 years. It may of taken a few goalies to find the right one and he may not be a spring chicken anymore but goalies are weird and often the good ones are very hard to get. I’m very happy with Smith and I think Treliving deserves all the credit in the world for that trade.
It's easy enough to point with the knowledge of how things turned out that Treliving failed in picking both Hiller and Elliot despite doing decently the season prior.

Yet I don't think very many people would be willing to jump back to their claims of how we should have brought Raanta, Mason, etc considering their performance this season.

Edit: Just goes to show that trying to find a goalie is always such a guessing game.
