I think a lot of people view Dinning as status-quo, wishy-washy and owes too many corporate executives favors to serve as an effective Premier. I think a lot of Albertans are legitimately centre-right (no, not hard right social conservative cross burners like some make Morton out to be), and want a legitimately centre-right Premier, similar to the types of politicians we've been electing at the federal level.
With that, PC members weary of fracture should really give Stelmach a serious look. He's right in between the two and everyone could probably work with him.
Alberta isn't "moving to the right." That's just Taft fearmongering to desperately try to take advantage. Of course, he probably knows, if an opportunity arrives, he'll be booted in favor of a politician closer to the level of Decore (note: a centre-right fiscal con in liberal silks) with a chance of actually winning.
