I am very nervous about the flames's 2018 1st round pick turning into a lottery pick for the NYI.

Feels like we shouldn't even has this problem this point of the season:
- Goaltending issues are now fixed. Smith/Rittich give them a chance to win every night.
- Gaudreau is top 3 in league scoring.
- Monahan is top 8 in goals.
- Ferland is having a decent (contract) year.
- Gio/Hamilton/Stone/Kulak are firing on all cylinders. Hamonic is getting better.
- 3M line is consistent.

I expected better results.

Yet, there is a slight chance we might barely miss the playoffs, because this team (looking at you Bennett/GG/DC) squanders 2 points on a consistent basis.

I wish Trelivng lottery-protected the 1st round pick.

The California Teams winning ain't making things easier.

Your move Wizard . . . i expect big things to happen before the trade deadline.

Still can't believe we gifted the no-good place 6 pts.

on the bright side, isnt our record 9-3-4 in the last 16?
While it's not that you are wrong to have expectations be high or feel that people building this team shouldn't be held accountable if things don't go well, there are a few things in your post that stand out to me.

- one, tree didn't go all in with the picks simply with this season in mind. That's a move made to hopefully have positive impact beyond this year and was far from a "short term move". People seem to falsely assume all moves involving picks as giving up on the future for right now. It depends on the move. That move was more a long term sacrifice for hopefully short but also medium and potentially long term gain.

- two, missing the playoffs, as painful as it is for the fans, does not mean what it used to even 10 years ago. Teams win the cup then miss the next year, then contend again the following year. Not saying the best of the best don't find more consistency than that, but missing doesn't mean you are that far off necissarily.

This team is still young and at most is just starting it's window with almost all it's best players in their early 20's with more improving to do and maturing to do. Not saying it's the entire issue, but it's part of why they are so inconsistent.
