10-3-4 in their last 17 games.. which makes your two contradictory statements above stand out. Seems to be a theme with a lot of people here... not just you.
Granted there were poor stretches in 2017, but the team really seems to have gelled and is (for the most part) playing much better defensive hockey.
Yes there is room for improvement, and younger players are inconsistent. With the parity in this league, just about every team is dealing with issues. No one runs the table and dominates 60 mins while remaining undefeated.
The post game threads seem to go off the deep end with the team playing .750 hockey.
