When a team is off to a 3- 8 start, changes are bound to happen. Over the last week, in an effort to beef up his first line and improve a slumping PP, Looooob targeted 2 things: a powerforward and a powerplay QB. Isbister was acquired earlier in the week for Drury and has clicked on the first line. In this (increasingly complex) deal the key for the Sabres was acquiring Kim Johnsson, one of the top offensive dmen in the CPHL. The Sabres are also happy to acquire another veteran winger in Scott Mellanby and a player with some untapped upside in Dimitrakos. These acquisitions came at great expense though giving up top 6 forward Mark Parrish, 3rd line utitlity man Jochen Hecht and long time Sabres Greg Devries and Michael Rupp.
Are the Sabres better after these deals? hard to say. However Looooob is said to be looking forward to having Johnsson and Niedermayer manning the point on the PP.
The Sabres 3rd line has taking a hit with these dealings now. Look for Buffalo to have Josef Vasicek centering two of Bates Battaglia, Nils Ekman and Grant Marshall. This part of the team may need to be addressed down the line.
