Stone is younger, has already matched (and bested) Simmonds highest point total seasons (60 points) one while being a rookie. He is an RFA so Treliving would be able to get him at a good number ~ especially with his brother in the fold here. Simmonds has a pretty good contract but his numbers have dipped this year and he's turning 30 years old next year and with it being probably his biggest contract year in his career he will be looking to get paid the following off-season and is a UFA.
Don't get me wrong ~ I'd love Simmonds on this team; I prefer his rough and tumble play versus Stone's ~ but considering all the factors I wouldn't want him at the cost of Bennett and Brodie who are still young and harness growing potential in their respective positions where as Simmonds has peaked and is even experiencing his first signs of declining.
Stone fits the age group, fits the greatest need, has ties to the team and would instantly become our top line RW while getting another crack at the playoffs.
I think Treliving is waiting this road trip out though.. we've been a road team all year and if we can assert a stellar record on this trip we could be going into the trade deadline looking to add a final piece to help push this team over the top.
