It's so common place... the company is doing everyone a favor by keeping them employed, they should be extremely grateful, so grateful that you think critically and decide to stay.
Considering that the company obviously doesn't care about the employee (or the customer based on their excuse of why they are doing this), then the only thing that could keep me there would be a bonus if I don't take the offer. And that won't happen.
