However, Primeau was part of another trade that brought the Flames a defenseman over in Brad Stuart. He had personal issues (in the form of seeing his kids) that made him unlikely to sign anywhere but the States.

Every time I see Stralman play, I wonder what it would have been like if we held on to him.
I thought that he had done really well in training camp and showed promise, but I believe our d-roster was full. We had Pardy, Sarich, Gio, Phaneuf, Bouw, and Regehr. He went on to have a pretty darn good season in Columbus.
The issues with his significant other not being allowed into the states, so he was in Columbus while his SO remained in YYC for a bit until they could sort things out.
