Wasn't that the concern going into the draft that he didn't have top end skills? He was a solid 2-way player with high character and some GM's overrate stuff like that which is probably why the Senators reached for him. NHL central scouting had him rated 20th amongst North American skaters which is about right as he probably should have been a 2nd round pick in hindsight which is exactly what the Flames gave up for him. Still only 23 years old and most career bottom 6 forwards are still in the AHL at this stage of his career so the Flames just have to see this guy through.
