As for putting some onus on the players - absolutely they need to be held accountable. And I think there is plenty of that going on. But the coaching issues are a constant. And they are something that can actually be dealt with. Also, maybe we need a little more holding the players responsible by the coaches.

Sorry yes it is indeed my opinion that timeouts are over-rated. Not meaning to state that as fact. It is my opinion.
To your other points, I think holding players accountable today is very hard. Most teams don't have a lot of depth. The only card coaches have to play is ice time and when you cut the ice time of your best players you harm your chances.
I meant moreso why fans aren't comfortable holding the players more accountable and specifically the inner core. I see a lot of blame, some of it rightly, against a small number of players. But my long held opinion is you live and die with your best players and if you lose more often than you win, it means your best aren't delivering.
