I don't think this is accurate. If so, I do not believe I heard about it.
His wife had just moved and had a baby in Calgary. He was shocked to have been traded to Columbus. While I don't know about his wife, he is Swedish and had not played in the States prior to the trade. So I think you're mistaken.
However, Primeau was part of another trade that brought the Flames a defenseman over in Brad Stuart. He had personal issues (in the form of seeing his kids) that made him unlikely to sign anywhere but the States.
