Smith has played better than any of those three this year.
Tre's mistake is hiring a rookie collaborative teacher that understands concepts and talks a good game as opposed to a leader and task manager for a young team in need of structure and protection. His inability to fix this will continue to haunt this team. Think about where Toews and Kane would be today without Quenville.
Pittsburgh worked because you had a mature group that knew what it took. This team needs to learn how to get there and outside of Versteeg and maybe Frolik there is no one on this team that understands the mental side of what it takes to win big games.
Even Carlyle would have been a better option at the time.
