I would at the right price and have said so multiple times. Isn't that what all this is about? Right now that price appears to be out of the level the Flames are agreeable to.
Again, he may have far more value to someone else, and knows that, which is why he would want to get to July 1 instead of re-upping with the Flames at what they can afford/value him at..
Also, he may (and likely will) want a NTC as part of any deal he signs. That then diminishes what you can get for him in the future.
The single biggest part of this discussion is whether or not the Flames can gamble and see him possibly walk away for absolutely nothing. IMO there is NO way that can be allowed to happen.
