And what happens when Gio starts to decline? Then we have no 1st pairing defensemen. Brodie, away from Gio, or with a declining Gio, isn't a 1st pairing player.
Even if you don't think Hamilton is a 1st pairing guy (I think he is), he certainly has a higher upside than Brodie.
