Gulutzan was asked a specific question about that play and answered fairly and honestly. I don’t feel like he threw Johnny under the bus, but confirmed that when there are about 3 minutes left in a tie game, you can’t turn the puck over at your own blueline, when there’s only one guy back. Mistakes happen, and mistake free hockey doesn’t exist. Demanding it is a surefire way to absolute failure (see: the Brent Sutter years).
Seeing as Gaudreau is the only player generating offence, the coach should re-direct the question and place blame on himself somehow. That’s what leaders do. Direct it back to your own incompetence and failure in developing a league average PP strategy.
