I think people fixate too much on what happens after tie games. Both when they get the extra point and when they don't.

I think the play of the team is worrisome as while they managed to get loser points it appears the team is starting to fall back into the mediocre play that has plagued them for long stretches of the past few seasons. This is not a very good team in regulation and that's worrisome as their goal differential is poor for a team in a playoff spot. If the top line isn't producing the team is in tough to score any goals and that's why I have an issue with sinking a lot of money into Backlund. Simply not enough secondary production and you have to realize if this is the best it's going to be with him what would be the point of paying more money for more mediocrity? It's only a matter of time until Jankowski assumes 2nd line duty and how much do you want to sink into a 3rd line center as Jankowski is going to require a raise this summer as well. This team needs better production from players not named Gaudreau, Monahan, and Tkachuk and Backlund hasn't shown he's a solution to the team's scoring woes and I can't accept sinking $5+ million long term into a checking forward as that's just poor team building.
