He hasn't looked as good this year as last to me. He's still an above average player with good trade value. I think they need to trade or sign him asap.
I don't care where they are in the race... Letting him walk for nothing would be unforgivable. Paying big prices for rentals has been proven to be pretty stupid most of the time and that would effectively be what they are doing by forgoing the 1st rounder and change he's worth or not just paying the price for his contract and trading him for assets over the next year sometime.
