The Flames were able to win because they have a very talented team. If this team had a good coaching staff we wouldn't be concerned about scraping into the playoffs in a wild card spot, we'd be having all the other Pacific teams chasing us the way Vegas is. Never discount the efficacy of quality coaching. No magic required. Just good systems, better preparation, and ultimate motivation. No stick tossing into the private boxes either.

I'm happy that the Flames won last night as I was at the game. But I just don't know what happened to the team last night after the first period. They were dominating and playing great in the first and I think they had 15 or 17 shots or something. They came out pretty flat in the second and either tried to maintain their lead by not being aggressive or Anaheim figured out how to beat the Flames system. The Flames, and pretty much any team, can't expect to win a game by playing one period.
