This is just my own pondering, and speculating.

If internally the Flames have determined that Gulutzan isn't the problem, and he is staying put

Then to me this system with this structure doesn't rely on high end talent on defense. Talent certainly helps, but stacking the back end is not necessary.

With the emergence of Kulak, and with Andersson knocking on the door and maybe Valimaki, and Kylington making a push there is the opportunity to move assets.

Do you trade your Captain? Do you trade your prized off season acquisition? Do you trade a 6'4 possession driver who is still just a kid? Do you trade a guy who was pegged as one of the best up and coming Dmen in the league? I don't know.

I like the make-up of this team. I like the top 6, I like the designated pairs of forwards and the complimentary forwards that go with them. But this team has a scoring problem. The system seems to stifle meaningful offence from the defense like we saw with Hartley's system, and allow less than elite dmen to thrive.

I would be floored if it happened mid-season, but I wouldn't be surprised that if a star winger came available, Treliving would make a play with someone from the top 4.

Or maybe we just have to wait one more season for Bennett to become a true impact, star forward.
