Calgary potentially is out of a 2nd for the next 3 years and a 1st this year. The proposed deal sends back one of those picks initially traded and a 2nd this draft that could be 32nd pick which is close to a 1st rounder.
Flames get a top 6 winger with grit, skill, upside and a top 9 winger that scored 44pts as a 20 year old.
I am in the trade Dougie camp because I think he is our best asset to acquire a true top forward. Looking st the Yotes they don’t have that so I looked at who made the most sense for a forward and added some picks we could also use.
I feel the ideal trade partner for Dougie is Toronto abd one of Marner or Nylander.
I am quite bullish on Andersson, Valimaki, Fox and Kylington so I do believe there are future top 4 D in the pipeline.

IMO having a top 2 defenceman under a great contract, who has not yet reached peak is better than having a top forward outside maybe a number 1 centre. Nylander or Marner are potential top line wingers, and IMO they wouldn't contribute to a whole lot more wins than what the Flames have now in Ferland. Over a season they might mean 10 more goals, which doesn't automatically mean wins. And while the Flames have four good defence prospects, they are 5 years away from having a top two type impact. Toronto's picks aren't going to be good ones either.
