Also, at the time, Hull was lazy as someone else mentioned, and he was out of shape.

Hull alluded to that himself later on...not sure if when he was with the Blues or with the Stars. But even Scotty Bowman said he became a complete two way player by the time he joined the Wings. There was obviously mutual admiration between the two of them.
