No way, that would be foolish. You take one of the most sought after trade bait positions in hockey (young offensive D-man with number 1 potential) and you better be getting a one for one top line, star forward.
No way in hell you add a salary dump. GM's do that sometimes with first/second round picks to get rid of bad contracts. Brad Treliving does that with Dougie Hamilton and it will assuredly be the biggest blunder of his career and mocked league wide.
You put that qualifier "still get good value" but that doesn't mean anything. You will get significantly less value if you dump a horrid contract, fact.
