So yes, I'm pretty sure winging it is exactly what they're doing. I agree that it's not working too well. Each film as a standalone movie is okay but I don't feel like they tie into each other very well at all.

This really is the whole problem with an otherwise enjoyable, escapist movie. I think you are going to see a big box office drop with the 3rd installment.
