I disagree with a lot of things the_only_turek_fan posts on here but I wouldn’t doubt for a minute that our 2019 first rounder is in play given treliving’s history. And I don’t even think it’s a bad thing so long as it is used to make the right deal and there is some plan to recoup the pick down the road.

I think Treliving sees things in cycles. When he came on board he described the position the Flames were to be one of 'acquisition mode' (or something to that effect). He made trades to stockpile picks (Glencross, Hudler to name a couple).
Once the organization felt they had sufficiently stocked the cupboards, they could start to use some of the draft picks, thier currency, to acquire players. Not just UFA's etc, but young players who they have control over and are in thier primes.
I suspect this is how the organization sees their current position in the league. On their way up, but not elite yet. I doubt the 2019 pick is in play. They haven't reached 'all in' status yet.
