I agree. Treliving should have insisted thst protection be placed on the pick on the chance it is a lotto pick. Islanders did that when they traded for Vanek and they avoided giving up the 5th pick in the draft and went on to have a playoff season in 2014 when they gave up the pick.
Flames likely should have protected themselves. We will know more in 5 months.
