I knew the moment he was hired he was likely never going to be the guy but that doesn't mean I haven't hoped I was wrong. I would support him if he could get this team playing up to it's talent but it's just not happening and this is not a season the team can afford to miss the playoffs. A lot of posters are still hoping that with every win the team is finally turning things around despite the fact that the pattern of good/bad play has been the only pattern under Gulutzan in 1.5 seasons. I don't think even the most positive posters can deny that the team has been mired in mediocrity for most of his term as head coach as they are a below .500 team in regulation play in his time here.

Admittedly, this is me. Despite not having nearly as many W’s as most expected by this point of the season I took solace in the fact that in a lot of their losses they’ve still had very solid underlying numbers, last night not included. Every time we get a solid win I think “this is it, they’ve turned the corner,” only to be disappointed again a few days later. I want to believe that Gulutzan is a good coach, and I hope for it every game but I can no longer deny the fact that outside one miracle run last year, the team has been remarkably average under Gulutzan. Times running for him to get the team firing on all cylinders or find someone who can prevent the Isles from getting a lottery pick.
