Fundamentally you don't want to overpay for players. The argument has arisen that Backlund may not be worth what some of us believe he is worth.
I think numerous posters in this thread have provided evidence that Backlund is a good bet to be a good player for many seasons yet. He fills a huge void on this team that we would be desperately trying to fill without him.
With that said, I don't think it will cost 6x6 to retain Backlund, particularly given the contracts Monahan and Gaudreau are on.
