The Flames run a powerplay tactic where primary goal is rebound generation with the secondary goal being getting Monahan a slot opportunity. The Flames have made it work in the Gulutzan era decently well, placing 12th in powerplay % over that time.

The thing is, of the various powerplay tactics, no tactic looks worse than a rebound-focused powerplay when on a cold run because it looks like the players are lobbing weak and poor-angled shots at nothing. At least with one-timer-based (Capitals) or rotation-based (Penguins) tactics they still look good even when they are on a cold run, and they are deadly when all cylinders are firing.

Personally, I'm not a big proponent of the rebound-based tactic but the Flames do make it work better than many other teams' tactic does. I would prefer a one-timer-based system but the outside of Giordano the Flames don't have a great option (hard and accurate) so it's not really a realistic option. A rotation-based tactic would be interesting but you would have to go 4F-1D with Giordano and Hamilton being the two D, because the others don't have the offensive movement required, which then means you can't deploy them as a pairing right after the powerplay finishes.

Now, the zone entries are just a complete joke. How, at this point, they run an entry scheme with two options, one being dump-and-chase, is beyond me. The coaching staff should be embarrassed with that pathetic system.
