Forever destined for mediocrity. I've said it before and I'll say it again, GG is NOT the guy to lead this team to the next level. Under his tenure we've seen some pretty average hockey outside of a 10 game win streak, and he's had really what 115 games to show an improvement?
This doesn't mean I don't think the Flames are missing anything, they need more punch upfront and the D is vastly overrated but GG seems like he's sucked literally all the enthusiasm to play the game from the team. I hate to bring it up but under Hartley the team battled, fought, played with pace, and outside of a few pieces the core was pretty much the same, supporting cast being worse. On top of that his decision making is just bizarre (Brouwer PP, Brodie on the #1 unit with no shooters on the point, the 4th line on the ice in key moments, etc.).
But I always ask myself, "Do I see something special being built?" and I think I can say pretty confidently no and the first change that needs to be made is a new coach. Otherwise get used to being average.
