I dangle the Hamilton's and ask for a package involving Kane (UFA) and a young player like Reinhart or McCabe.

Dougie Hamilton has greater value than Reinhart or McCabe and the difference is made up for the Kane rental. This gives Buffalo their "No. 1 defender".

I think the Flames will be fine without Dougie. The defense pairings could be:

Gio/Hamonic - I like this pairing on the PK and think it would be a great shutdown pair
Brodie/Stone - we know it works
Kulak or McCabe/Anderson - if GG insists on the left/right thing
McCabe

Or

Gio/Brodie - elite first pair defencse
McCabe/Hamonic - try it and see
Kulak/Stone -they are adequate
