His initial plan to draw them away was foiled by Dwight. Then we cut to a meeting between him and Negan where they were discussing ammo. Nothing specified.

Fast forward to this episode, Rick and the Garbage People find there is a clear path. Explanation for escape: "Eugene". Maybe they explain it later, but for now that just felt like a big FU deus ex machina to the viewers.

That was just a ridiculous episode. Carl's impending death had zero impact. His speech with Negan was the best part and had the most potential, but then they take a direct #### on it with the following disjointed crap.

This first part of the season has been frantic for the sake of frantic. The story had an odd pace, and the writing wasn't convincing in the slightest. There were some good moments, but as of right now I think they've gone to waste.

Maybe I'll change my tune when they come back in February/March, but for now I'm just disappointed.
