He did have Edmonton playing well last year - much better, in fact. However, this year they have reverted to themselves.
I am not sure if he is an upgrade on Gulutzan. He is without a doubt more experienced, but I am not sure he is really any better. At any rate, if the Flames for some reason let Gulutzan go, I would hope it is to hire a better coach than McLellan. McLellan is just not one of those coaches that make teams think they should replace their existing coaches for. I don't see it.

I feel McLellan is a strong 2nd tier coach and I think the telling factor is that if both coaches got their walking papers at the end of the season that McLellan would get a new head coach job long before Gulutzan who like every Flames head coach post Darryl will likely never coach again (as head coach) in the NHL after the Flames.
