That's missing the point. Who hasn't felt the urge to go and just get drunk? Who hasn't enjoyed the loss of inhibitions that accompanies it? That doesn't make everyone an alcoholic, or give the people who have felt that way a basis for understanding what it's like to be one. I suspect you're right; most people have considered what suicide would be like, at some point. But those thoughts probably don't sit next to you every day.
