With Han Solo dead where does that leave Chewbecca? So his life debt to Han passed... so why doesn’t he ditch everyone. I mean does anyone besides Han Solo even understand him? Life debts don't pass like that, once the person dies that life debt is complete. Now Chewie might feel an obligation to Ren, but we saw in Force Awaken's that this is clearly not the case. His obligation to Rey is a personal choice of whether he sticks with her or not.
Same with Leia.
Frankly that whole grieve with Leia together didn't bug me much, I mean Fin patched up Chewie and Chewie because he comes from a society that seems to see things in balances and debts wanted to make sure that he was patched up.
Plus, there's clearly no wookie sized can on the Falcon, so maybe he had to go and destroy a toilet.
