Interestingly last nights game was the most dominate game the Flames have played all year from a puck posession perspective. 68.42 CF%. The second most with 64.86 CF% was the 6-0 home loss to Ottawa. The third most with a 62.20 CF% was the 5-2 home loss to Vancouver. The 4th with 60.67 CF% was the 2-1 road win in Washington and the 5th with 59.74 CF% was the 8-2 road loss to Detroit.
My point? None really. Just interesting. When the Flames easily control the play they typically get embarrassed. I know score affect has a bit to do with this but if you look at the game flow charts in all of those horrific losses, Calgary controls the play right from the start. They usually have a big lead in chances and shots while the game is still tied.
League wide it's just as odd. Of the 10 most dominating performances this season, only 2 times the team clearly in control of the game has won.
As for losing the game 5-2 when you control the play, it could have been worse. Check out this Hurricanes game. The Hurricanes had 18 HDCF to the Leafs 4. The Leafs are a talented team that can score at will. The Hurricanes are not.

That is odd. I wonder if it has to do with the team that has the possession advantage playing too much perimeter, slower pace hockey? Not really getting high quality chances from danger areas? Are the teams that are winning the games, losing the stats battle getting goals off of rushes?
