Really good episode last night and a two hour one to boot.
Spoiler!
Really creepy start with an alien wearing a dude suit leading a raid that takes all of our hero's except for Fitz prisoner, they're sent through a portal and end up on a space station in an asteroid field.
As the hero's reunite they find out that this is a Kree Station occupied by what remains of humanity after a cataclysmic event has destroyed the Earth. The Kree basically saved humanity and imposed a brutal basically concentration camp life style. We find out that the portal was also a time travel device and that the Agents have moved into the future.
All human's wear a implant call a metric, they're basically slaves, as long as they work hard they're fine, but if they don't its over for them.
The Kree are commanded by a creepy dude who's obsessed with beauty and perfection and he takes Simmons and makes her into his personal human slave. He also inserts something in her ear so she's deaf to everyone but him.
We see that May materialized with a Pipe through her leg giving her an injury that hobbled her, in real life Ming Na Wen had major knee surgery and this was a clever way to cover that up. But she still kicks a lot of butt.
There's a new character on the team, a survivor named Deke who has rebuilt the framework which allows humans and Kree to escape from reality for a while. Daisy and Deke end up in the Frame work and he explains that Daisy caused the event that shattered the earth.
At the same time we see that the Kree are all about Sport and they have an event where they toss a shotgun on the floor and turn random peoples Metric's red, those people can then either die or pay with the life of someone else. Humanity has become truly wretched and violent and suspicious.
While Fitz wasn't bought to the future he did manage to send a message to the future via a postcard that simply says "Working on It". Kind of a cool idea.
For the whole off season speculation was that Coulson in space would introduce Sword of Spear and we would have human space aces. However Yoyo made a big joke about it and Coulson denied that space shield existed.
This was a pretty daring and dark start to the season. As always it was well acted and written, with Mac bringing up the Alien movies when Coulson thought they should split up. Mac basically responded with "We know what happens in Alien Movies and we know who dies first". The next scene has the whole group doing the group creep down a hallway and Coulson quips "Oh yeah we look cool".
I was worried that with the budget cuts to the show that the effects would take a step back, but they found a way to balance it out nicely with a lot of scenes taking place in the space station with no windows and not a lot of high tech. But when they shot outside the effects looked great especially the destroyed earth.
