Mangiapane should get every opportunity to prove himself at the NHL level. But the Flames shouldn't count on it, and they should be looking to fill the hole with someone more reliable in case he doesn't stick. Be that Iggy, a waiver wire pickup, or a trade.

I think the Flames have spent a ####load of assets over the last couple of years to bring in help from the outside. Picks, prospects and salary cap have been given up to bring in a number of players, and that's absolutely fine. But yeah, I think at some point you also have to look at help that comes internally.
Versteeg has played on the fourth line lately, and I do think a guy like Hathaway can fill this role. You also have to cover for Jagr because his mileage will result in day-to-day injuries, and that's where guys like Mangiapane deserve a shot IMO. Versteegs PP minutes can be given to other guys, especially Stone.
