Disagree. I thought Atomic Bomb was a pretty solid album. No Line On the Horizon was a late career gem (minus the cringe worthy Get On Your Boots), and there are a handful of standout songs on Songs of Innocence that hold up nicely alongside their best work in my opinion (Cedarwood Road, Raised By Wolves, Iris, Song for Someone).
I haven't heard the new one yet. The singles they've released so far have been below average, I'll give you that. But I highly doubt the album will be as bad as the holier-than-thou Pitchfork hipsters would like it to be. Will it be top 3 end of the year list-worthy? Likely not, especially at this stage of their career. But on any U2 record, there are always at least 5 or 6 top-notch quality tunes, and I'm betting the deep cuts on this album are better than the singles. They usually are with this band.
