In 2008 the Patriots missed the playoffs with an 11-5 record. That's the only time in the current system that I can remember recall an 11 win team missing. In 1991 the NFC had a glut of 10-6 teams which resulted in Phillips and San Francisco missing with 10 wins. Back in those days there were 3 Divisions and 3 Wild Card teams. In the AFC the 8-8 Jets were a Wild Card team in 91. Over the years there's probably 15to 20 or so teams since 1990 that missed the playoffs with 10 wins. Likely more so since the 4 Division format came into play.

*edit only 9 times since 1990 that I could count. Most of those since the 2002 re-alignment. 91 was the only year before that where 10 win teams missed out
