It's supposed to be entertaining.
Playoffs are easier in cfl to make but aren't guaranteed and fighting for home field still means something.
Plus, unless you are advocating for a euro soccer style league where regular season winner is the GC winner, then your point is meaningless. Who cares if 2 or 4 or even all 9 make the playoffs or how many games they play if you feel like the regular season is meaningless and only playoffs matter?
Would you feel better if the Stamps and Argos both went straight to the GC and the Stamps lost this way?
What if it was Stamps and Bombers in a 1 division league with no playoffs? Would losing this way feel better because you played a better team?
At some point you need to be better in the big games. And if you can only be a fan for big games then you probably don't enjoy the sport.
That being said, lots of cities lose interest when they have perennially great teams who can't win it all. Atlanta Braves, Detroit Red Wings etc. For lots of cities the fans barely care unless they get to the final or championship game because they are so used to winning. I think hays because expectations ruin the experience of a fun regular season. When you're so used to those games being meaningless it becomes hard to cheer as hard as you once did as a fan.

The regular season needs to matter for fans and thus for the league.
The talk about moving up the schedule and the GC is part of that conversation already and had been identified by the new commish to make it more fan or tv friendly. However that can be done by still starting in July and cutting 3 or 4 games and making each regular season game that much more important.
Make it one division. Only the top 3 make it into the playoffs. Winner of the season automatically gets into GC. Other two play to meet that team. Puts a lot more emphasis on the regular season for fans and players. Best team gets rewarded with a week off and a one gamer to get a title. The other two teams are a half step below but still good teams and have earned it.
Doesn’t mean the Stamps come out any better tonight or last year but at least it makes the regular season more interesting as a casual fan.
Will never happen because of loss of 2 home games per team revenue, 3 less playoff games but that’s what I’d like to see.
NHL in a 21 team league prior to the early 90s was almost the same, where sad sack teams made the playoffs, with 16/21 teams in. Devalued the regular season then and there too.
