But I can't do it anymore. It's fun to catch a game live. But the sport lacks excitement form June through October. What's the point? Almost everyone is guaranteed a shot at the Grey Cup and the only games that matter are in November.

I'm not too upset about the Grey Cup - I didn't invest much time in it. I only watched one regular season game this year in it's entirety. Apathy has already hit me hard.

The 8-10 2001 Stampeders did what the 15-2-1 and 13-4-1 2016 & 2017 Stamps couldn't do - win in November. Same goes for the 2017 9-9 Argos and the 2017 8-9-1 RedBlacks. How does the CFL market an 18 game season when there are only 2-3 games that count?

As far as I'm concerned there are 20 preseason games in the CFL.
I didn't pick up on that post because I thought it was a ridiculous time to talk about regular season apathy minutes after getting your heart torn out in a championship game. But here I go anyway.

I don't disagree that 18 games is too long but hockey and basketball seasons are way too long also.

At some point, you have to enjoy the game and the experience and not just because every game is pivotal to whether your team wins a championship. For me, that's why I still follow the CFL and will try and go to a game in the summer when I visit home. I like the game. It's how many people feel about baseball. Your team is out of the playofsf with 100 games left in the season but people still go to the game.

The league does need to figure out how to attract younger fans, but making it harder to qualify for playoffs has nothing to do with that IMO.
