As someone who's lived the past several years in Vancouver, it's true that it's really not all it's cracked up to be. Arguably not as attractive as some major US cities (depends on your priorities, really - US culture isn't for me), and most definitely not on the same tier as a lot of places in Europe.

But, I know this may not be a popular opinion here, I still wouldn't trade it for going back to Calgary. There's a lot of value in not having to scrape off your vehicle in -30 degree weather and drive to work on a sheet of ice. And the summers (short as they are) can't be beat.

Disclaimer, I say this as someone who rents a modest apartment in Kits and has no intention of paying $1 million+ for a house any time soon.
