Default Other today in history

I wanted to add on after I did the blackbeard thread. But today is a major day in terms of historical events

1963 - John F Kennedy is assassinated, he's killed when he was hit by two bullets fired by Lee Harvey Oswald from the Texas Schoolbook repository in Dallas Texas.

1864 - Confederate General John Bell Hood invades Tennesse in an attempt to draw out Union General William T Sherman out of Georgia. This turned out to be a disaster for the Confederate Army as William Sherman began his march to the Sea that resulted in the capture of Savannah.

1988 - The first B-2 Stealth Bomber is revealed to the public representing a generational leap forward in Military Aviation.

1990 - Margaret Thatcher resigns as Prime Minister of England after 11 years in office and is replaced 6 days later by John Major

1916 Jack London dies of Kidney failure - One of my favorite writers growing up and someone who's books should be read by every kid as a mandatory literature assignment when they hit junior high school. The Call of the Wild, White Fang and the Sea Wolf still have a prominent place on my bookshelf.

1986 - Mike Tyson destroys Trevor Berbick to become the youngest heavy weight boxing champion in history. He would hold the belt for 4 years and 9 title defenses until being knocked out by James "Buster" Douglas in 1990

1942 - The Army completes its encirclement of the German's at Stalingrad. German General Paulus asked for permission from Hitler to surrender and that request was denied and eventually the German army was destroyed in the field and The Soviets marched on Berlin.
