I’m definitely one of the fans that underrates Monahan but you must admit it isn’t like this hot streak has been the way he’s played throughout his entire career, so let’s not apply revisionist history for this exceptional period across his whole playing days. Same with Gaudreau. And I’ll try to do the same when he is struggling or on a cold streak, remember these times and the fact that just like any other player (or human being) there are hot streaks and cold streaks.

At the end of the day he truly is a gifted player. I think if he had a bit more of a mean streak he could truly be elite because he has the size and probably the strength to stand up for teammates, goalies, push other players after the whistle if they’re being annoying, etc. Instead he acts like a shrinking violet and never engages. Now is that because he is told to by coach so he doesn’t get a penalty? Maybe but I think it’s more likely it just isn’t his personality. After the Detroit game in the PGT, a couple posters said they were fired up seeing Monahan get so mad on the bench at the end of the game, and when he had to be restrained, these posters stated maybe this is a turning point for him. I couldn’t disagree more, because it’s just not his personality. He’s not wired that way. Iginla was, and i believe that personality trait truly helped Iginla in a very meaningful way. Helped him be a better captain, helped him stand up for teammates which bonds the team, helped generate emotion which helps the team. This is the one part that Monahan is missing but otherwise he is amazing. His shot is incredible, and he is clutch in high pressure situations, overtime, shootout, very complimentary to Gaudreau, he really is great.

Anyway, sorry for the lengthy post.
